Health has been an elusive concept in western civilization for decades, if not centuries. It seems in recent years we have started to grasp some general ideas of what it means to be healthy. Good health has countless definitions, few of which are mutually exclusive, while most seem to be peoples’ own interpretations of happiness or contentment achieved through a self-assessed state of physical well-being. Healthy for some means beach bodies and bikinis, while other seek an encouraging report from their medical doctor, and yet others ideas are less tangible associations of some fleeting sense of peace of mind.

Whatever the case, media and an uncontested traditional education have molded our ideas of physical health, emotional well-being, body image, and even our understandings of dis-ease. The Health Revolution Festival was comprised to facilitate a simple contemporary and holistic understanding of the nature of what it means to Be and feel HEALTHY as well as provide an experience of cultural arts, herbs, and language that elevate our electromagnetic vibrations.

TRUTH – We all want change, but have been perpetually misguided as to from whence such change should flow. Using recent American social and political calamities as examples, there are still vast misinterpretations and fears that have plagued our modern world. With a mind for the positive, sometimes we march, some vote, others join the Peace Core, and the most afflicted of us riot. Whether we protest or do Yoga, truth is that 99.99% of us eat food, yet many have not taken into account how our bodies’ sustenance affects of state of being even at political and social-economic levels. Any shift that we will to see, any “REVOLUTION” will be a direct byproduct of the quality with which we feed ourselves.

Dr. Sebi is THE renowned indigenous herbal Healer who has reversed the implications of the “incurable” dis-eases and is responsible for what we know about “Alkaline vs. Acidic” foods. He has availed to us the dire importance that our food intake should reflect our body chemistry. Sebi is traditionally trained in the most organic forms of ancient medicine, as well he’s an expert in modern western science giving him an unmatched ability to treat every patient. He’s even proven his genius in front of the New York Supreme Court.

Bro. POLIGHT is ex- gangleader turned master educator, author of 90+ books and fluent in 8 languages at the age of 31 years. A true entrepreneur has shared his secrets on celestial body chemistry, numerology, ancient tonal language dynamics, and political economics to empower real sustainable wealth into otherwise failing urban neighborhoods. Along with sharing the most modern tactics for community spiritual economics, Bro. POLIGHT will teach us to use our own tonal frequency resonance to charge and activate our DNA.

Onochie Chukwarah is a rare Afrikan oral storyteller, blending indigenous drums and ancient tales past only through the oral tradition which has become a lost art in the West. These original narratives are embedded with proven secrets and lessons that help one find their own inner peace.

Ramses Barden the Jolly Green Giant is a SuperBowl Champion Vegan broadcaster and ‘Facilitator of Space’ who has reached the pinnacle of professional sports to offer extremely unique perspective on establishing happiness and balance in any walk of life and is the glue behind this gumbo.

So We Riot!" class="twitter-share-button">Tweet

Verdict after verdict, we keep getting fed disappointment. And the ‘we’ I’m referring to is Us who have confided in this judicial system for some semblance of justice, or righteousness, or fairness, or a whole host of other phrases purported to represent freedom and peace of mind we were conditioned to believe our allegiance to this great nation would afford us. Like many affected by the tidalwave of verdicts in which we had hung our faith, I too am torn. But not so much in whether or not to trust a social system alleging a promise of representation and sovereignty for the People who created it, but more in terms of my sentiment for My people, wandering aimlessly in search of an explanation, an understanding, a discernible cause to which they can pinpoint the source of this relentless hate that seems to cast over them like a magnetic cloud of inadequacy. This torn I know is more a wound absorbed vicariously through those for whom I bear a self-inflicted burden.

Interestingly, I’ve been accused of lacking passion, that burning fire to conquer something unseen. I won’t deny that my demeanor can portray such attitudes, for I even walk with a California cruise. However, I’ve always felt my passions lay deeper and pulse harder, but not for me. I am not so sure that I am here for my own benefit. On this Earth I mean. Since birth I’ve been given everything, be it natural physical ability, elite intellect, or opportunities to access forums of people, information, and experiences many wouldn’t fathom. These are not gifts to be proud of in the traditional sense. They are merely tools, for I’ve been blessed if you will with unimaginable perspective. That’s why people love being around me. You won’t find anyone with whom I’ve spent significant time who wouldn’t say Ramses is one of the most pleasant people with whom to share space. Hear me for my truth and openness. These gifts are tools to connect, to share, to open the minds and hearts not afforded the awareness of their freedom to think freely. The Freedom to think Freely!

Consumed with fear and hesitation, what ability do we have to see ourselves in the pupils of our rarest strangers? Of course we approach with caution, our defenses up, weapon in arms, prepared to subdue any perpetrator we interpret as trespassing on our presumed right to manipulate nature. Our shields drawn and cold-hearted body armor wielded to intimidate any neighbor we mistook for conjuring the very fears we carry between our wallets, purses, pockets, and padlocks, unaware that our thoughts alone concocted such a gross projection. How can the beat-walking evening officer not assume threat when he sees my nappy crown floating atop an unshaven shadowy face wearing the wrinkles past down from ancestors too frightened to leave with Harriet? Why wouldn’t I flex my chest and raise my voice to any uniform who forcibly escorted my grandparents out of the house we grew up in because the mortgage agreement fine-print stipulated that they never owned the property anyway, even though it was their energy and potential labor that created the credit to fund the mortgage loan in the first place. Reduced to meddling tenants in our own neighborhoods, why wouldn’t I stand with my brothers to defend the last frontier we know, since eminent domain and manifest destiny confiscated my ability dream about something I could see with these two eyes?

I guess my pain is inevitable and though torturously piercing, I better learn to cope so not to be detained for voicing an opinion inconsistent with those kind enough to guarantee my rights just long enough to sell them as collateral for their nefarious bookkeeping. I suppose I should be grateful….

The fact alone that many may not read this far, or be able to interpret my sarcasm plagues the heart that was designed to share love with them. Imaginably, the most hurtful feelings arise when I care for the lives and peace of mind for my human family more than they care to stop killing themselves at breakfast, lunch, and dinner, swearing daily curses like “I can’t complain,” “Oh, I’m not too bad, just a little tired,” or even “Good Mourning!”…….. What The F***!!! Do we even listen when we speak? Do we care that we create our realities in every moment of every day? Or are we just happy to stay churning the same hamster wheel that’s blinded us in a sea of monotony? For at least then we know we always have another responsible party to blame for their failure to replace the cheese in our cage.

Eventually, after some sunlight and a host of butterfly effecting breaths, my stint of frustration hits a ceiling and I am left only with borrowed verses from Lauryn Hill or India.Arie and “I love to love myself unconditionally.” How can I not? Like I mentioned, in one way or another I was given everything. The most important of these gifts I call perspective, seeded in life experience from a multitude of angles (or angels depending on your degrees of overstanding) shared with contemporaries of all walks. It is no accident that I see remnants of myself in any eyes in which I’ve peered.

With such a comprehensive journey accompanying such youth, I am left only with knowing how I alone am the sole responsible party for inviting any such pain and confusion into my life, and likewise my bliss. For football and athletics in general, the purest form of physical manifestation of which I’m aware, has taught me that at any moment any player, regardless of their vantage point, can alter the climate of a contest. The courage and determination to assert a will is unlimited in scope. It is he or she with the iron will that most influences the outcome of any verdict. Perhaps the question is, ‘what do we will ourselves To BE?’ The power is in the People. It has never left. Sometimes we just require a mirror to discern our own wrinkles a little more clearly. Perhaps you’ll even BE inspired to re-read these leaves and replace the I’s with We’s.

Seems we’ve come to know only a few facets of the contemporary athlete’s personality. Most often they fall under domestic abuser of women and children, nightclub survival expert, professional novelty procurer, dim-witted tote mule, ponzi scheme low-hanging fruit target, ‘yessir Boss’ do-boy, and occasionally the involuntary charitable benefit attendant.

Ironically, these are the same athletes we’ve come to love because they don’t ask penetrating questions, they live up to the irresistible level of excitement of their gladiating’ ancestors, they keep the sing-along bouncing ball easy to follow at the bottom of the TV screen, and most importantly they never corrupt us with their true emotions because they are incapable of accessing them anyway.

So you could imagine my dismay, when I arose to see my brother Benjamin Watson filling up the TV screen in an excerpt of a primetime broadcast special professing his pain for the Ferguson debacle with which America has seemed to become so familiar. I thought to myself, ‘the nerve of this buck! He’s got the audacity to adorn a tailored suit and mount the stage of national television and bleed raw unadulterated emotion into the public stream in such a manner that any casual observer may mistake his prose for that of an esteemed sociologist.

Left in a conundrum, I remain curious, to what degree should the athlete be aloud to speak his mind? Should we petition government to mute the opinions of our favorite players? Surely if we don’t, and these quaking thought patterns go unchecked, such raw emotion from the crux of a near trillion dollar global sports industry ($300 billion merely ESPN & Vegas) could implode the political structure that presently guarantees justice and freedom for all. I mean, who didn’t watch at least one of the last 4 SuperBowls? These brutes with whom we identify mostly because of their perfected physical natures and mastery of childhood games we grew up loving, could they be the same individuals primed to transmute their physical excellence into political aptitude and lead the People with their minds groomed by poise amidst the most tumultuous circumstances? Well, that’s only if the old adage stands true, “As within, so without”. I guess I remain befuddled, because these ballers aren’t even suppose to be literate, yet it seems they’re the most equipped to articulate sentiment that will settle a grieving nation.

Being the home for many celebrities, forward thinkers, Hollyweirdos, and Sun-loving hipsters, it is no accident that information and access regarding diet and bodily health is abundant. Seems like everybody and there mom is on a juice cleanse these days. Already being a Vegan, that consumes mostly whole organic foods, I am no stranger to a ‘Glowing Greens’ blend, ‘Shakti Chai’ shake, or even a ‘Lemon-Ginger Immune fortifier’. As my quest continues to maximize the utility of my mind, I am open to even the most far-fetched purifying mechanisms.

I’ve recently begun studying certain teachings of renowned herbalist, Djehuty Ma’at Ra, who also advocates a natural whole food diet, asserting that our diets as humans are often the primary source of health, mental clarity, and daily habits. I know this to be true first hand, and this is often an emphasis in my presentations, regardless of the venue or audience. I have even coined the phrase “What feeds the body leads the body,” which is evident in food, but also true for all ingestibles of which we find ourselves in the presence; may they be friends, books, music or otherwise.

Doing my best to stay on topic, I went Djehuty’s Hollywood location on Santa Monica, and met two beautiful (physically and spiritually) women working there, Janaba and Hope. I immediately got a sense that they were in attunement with the herbs and other natural remedies Djehuty provides. Their demeanor and good humor were appreciated upon my entrance, and their personalities felt very familiar before I even alluded to my interest in herbal detox. I am always interested to see if employees really vouch for a company or a product when the boss isn’t around. You can usually tell a lot just by their body language after asking a question. After witnessing their good spirits and the warm energy in the store, I am happy to support www.DHealthStore.com.

I bought some pinhole reader glasses designed to exercise muscles in the eye, improving vision and the Full Body Detox, which has blood, lymphatic, cardiovascular, digestive, lung, and adrenal components, designed to repair and rejuvenate the body to a more pristine and youthful state. Trying not to sound too much like an off-brand infomercial, I have experienced a renewed sense of clarity and heightened awareness(or my sense and surroundings). I have noticed my body is more electric, as I have been finger-shocking people with greater frequency. I have noticed increased virility and endurance in all areas of my life. Most importantly for me has been the more immediate access to creative energy to better share gifts and spread a message I believe is worthy of my Human Family’s Atūn-tion.

Spending 5 years (and counting) playing professional football on the east coast really helps me appreciate home every time I land at LAX or Burbank. For the last few weeks all my friends have been complaining of the persistent heat wave that was consistent with the disruption of a seasonal storm. While I felt for them, because of the unusual heat, I wasn’t as empathetic as normal, because despite my safe haven, I was left jealous from the extended winter we survived in Buffalo. Often when I land in Southern California, and not too distracted by rush-hour traffic, I am enamored by the mountains and the vast scenery available from vantage of any Los Angeles freeway. This time was no different, as I marveled at the shaded brown and green marbling foothills upholding the southern region like a backbone. When I got home to Altadena, I could hardly put my bag down before I raced into the backyard, nearly tripping on the door panels to see our new family garden flourishing with the fruits of our labor. When I left for Buffalo, the adolescent garden was still deciding whether or not it wanted to take us seriously, but thanks to the blood, sweat, and mud of my Parents while I was away, we had a plethora of zucchini, cucumber, tomatoes, collards, string beans, swiss chard, beets and even a watermelon upon my return. Safe to say that I didn’t have to worry about rush-hour getting to the grocery store (too corny to erase).

The harvest was impressive, but I was happiest with my Pops dedication to the work. He probably wouldn’t even call it work, considering all the fun he seems to find soaking up the essence of Mother Earth. Seriously, it made me feel good he was able to find an enjoyable pastime why my mom and I are out of town with our jobs. I felt/feel a great peace of mind knowing that I don’t need to be home all the time when I am in town.

As someone without a traditional charity in my own name, I take pride in assisting the efforts of close friend and teammates. JJ Newman (I call him Jimmy-Jam) hosted his annual charity weekend in Wheeling, West Virginia. JJ’s played professional baseball for a number of years, most notably with the New York Mets. The foundation supports a variety of disenfranchised children in the West Virginia area. Unfortunately, this year the weather in Wheeling did not permit us to have a usual celebrity softball game and a home run derby. So this year we steered onto the hardwood to play a celebrity basketball game at a nearby boys home. The weather turned out to be a gift in disguise. We connected with the children on a level like never before. Organizing the teams so the youth could actually play with the celebrities made them feel much more involved in the entire experience. The kids really lost themselves in the game. It didn’t feel like a forced interaction like so many of these events can. I am proud to have been involved. We have also decided to incorporate an annual basketball game next year into the normal festivities to guarantee that the children involved, get unadulterated access to the ‘celebrity’ participants.

During our 5 years together with the New York Giants, Terrell Thomas has become somewhat of a peer mentor to me. Terrell (T2) has been a consummate professional since my arrival to the Giants in 2009. He has never hesitated to share with me nuances I could harness to improve skill sets and stay in the league. T2 has a very inspiring story as he has recovered from 3 separate ACL injuries, a pitfall once deemed career-ending and life-compromising. But the determination and commitment to success by the likes of Terrell Thomas and others have proved that even the most treacherous gridiron casualties can be overcome.

It was and will continue to be my pleasure in assisting T2 with his yearly Dream Big football skills camp. His camp is every Summer in Fontana, California, where the focus is teaching the campers about football from the perspective of experts who have mastered the game, however the biggest emphasis lies in the question-answer session that concludes each camp. This panel interview session allows student-athletes the first hand insight on how to conduct themselves in order to achieve success in whichever path they’ve created for themselves. And of course, I ALWAYS find a way to sprinkle a tidbit of my Holistic Lifestyle, a message for which I am very passionate.

For those who don’t know, I went to Flintridge Prep in La Cañada, just outside Altadena and Pasadena. Played 4 different sports and achieved ALL-CIF in all of them, and earned ALL-State honors in basketball.I also made honor roll few times which was hardly easy at that school. Flintridge is ranked a Top 10 private school in America by The Washington Post. I would only don #11 during my tenure at Prep because my lifelong attachment to prime digit. I am unworthy yet grateful and honored to be recognized as a man acknowledged for commitment to a foggy dream.

The ceremony was particularly special for me because we spent a substantial deal of time honoring the late Tom Fry, one of my football coaches and teachers, and more importantly an impactful mentor for my growth as a man. It took Fry’s laid back, but sarcastic demeanor to transform obscure ideas into common sense concepts that broadened and sharpened my view of the world and its relation to me.

It was humbling to see the level of appreciation Prep has for its students and its desire to remain a supporting figure in our lives. My allegiance to the Flintrigde Prep Rebels is strong and I am grateful for the massive growth experienced onto the grounds of such an open-minded campus. Special thanks to Alex Rivera, Doña Kim, Tony Harrison, Coach O’hara, Coach Beattie, Coach Moran, Mr. Higopian, Peter Bachman, Mr. Russo, and a host of great teachers and, friends, and leaders in the world community.
